Members of the North-east business community are being encouraged to apply for the 2018 Elevator Awards, the region’s prestigious awards ceremony dedicated to recognising the outstanding achievements and commitments made by business leaders and entrepreneurs over the last year.
Entries officially opened yesterday (Tuesday, February 13) at 12noon and from the shortlist of finalists, the winners will be revealed at a black-tie event at the Mercure Ardoe House Hotel in June.
Applications can now be submitted for 10 of the 11 categories, including a new category for 2018, Inspirational Mentor of the Year – sponsored by Techx at the Oil & Gas Technology Centre, a technology accelerator.
Organised by social enterprise Elevator – which works across Scotland to help facilitate the start-up, acceleration and growth of new and existing businesses – the annual awards honour business excellence, commending outstanding employers, entrepreneurs, inspirational mentors, businesses at every stage of their journey along with innovations and community impact businesses.
The winners of the 2017 awards represented a wide range of start-up companies, innovative organisations and firms from sectors including energy, technology, sport, food and drink, beauty and professional services.
More than 400 guests witnessed Martin Gilbert, co-chief executive of Standard Life Aberdeen, awarded the ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ accolade and Pat Machray, former chairman and chief executive of ANM Group, named as the recipient of the ‘Lifetime Achievement of the Year’ award on the night.
Other winners included Aberdeen Sports Village for ‘Business Success Over Three Years’, Fierce Beer for ‘Most Promising New Business’ and Cammach Recruitment for ‘Employer of the Year’.
Graham Morgan, deputy chief executive of Elevator, officially launched this year’s awards at an event yesterday at its Centre for Entrepreneurship in Bridge of Don.
He said: “2017 saw some truly inspirational entries and the judges faced a daunting challenge to select winners from an exceptionally strong cohort of finalists. Our belief is that the North-east is home to some of the finest examples of true entrepreneurial spirit and business creativity in the entire country so we are looking forward to see what 2018 brings and recognising some exceptional achievements at the Elevator Awards.”
The 2018 Elevator Awards see Royal Bank of Scotland remain as the principal partner and sponsor of the awards, with Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council as event partners.
Russell Whyte, director, Corporate and Commercial Banking in Aberdeen at Royal Bank of Scotland said: “The Elevator Awards are the North-east’s most inspirational business event and recognises the outstanding talent that the region has to offer. The Royal Bank of Scotland is proud to once again support the awards and the skill, diversity and ambition of all those nominated.”
Jordan Rowson, business development manager at Cammach Recruitment, which lifted the Employer of the Year award last year, said winning the award had underlined the team’s commitment and passion.
“The Elevator Awards experience was incredible. The awards process allowed us to look in depth internally at our strengths and why we felt we were deserving of the title of Employer of the Year.
“Part of what made us award winners is that as a team we are all really passionate about the business and what we deliver for clients and candidates. When it was announced we had won, there was an incredible amount of pride and elation!
He added: “I would thoroughly recommend entering the Elevator Awards in 2018 to any business that wants to celebrate their success.”
Applications are open now online at www.elevatorawards.com with a closing date of Friday, March 23, 2018 at 5pm.
