The West End bar and restaurant formerly known as Dizzy’s has re-opened as Soju after a £200,000 renovation.

Commercial product design and upholstery specialists, Luxous completed the renovation transforming it into an Asian and Scottish themed restaurant.

The interior features an eclectic mix of tartan and cherry blossom with a modern and opulent setting throughout the bar and restaurant areas.

Aberdeen-based Luxous, was chosen by Soju management to come up with an individual concept to mirror the twists on the modern Scottish and Asian influenced menu. The full team at Luxous worked on the project from concept and design, right through to the manufacturing and installation of all interior elements.

Luxous hand-crafted all the décor, with tartan upholstery fitted across the seating areas and cherry blossoms across the walls. The walls comprise of 25sqm of artificial forest fern, while the bar offers a unique seating area with 6ft tall throne-like chairs that were ornately carved by the Luxous team.

Enlisting help from partners, Granite City Ceilings, to install the 100sqm ceiling designed by the Luxous team, to create the impression of the outdoors with blue skies and greenery. The ceiling in the bar area also features a distinctive range of bright, contemporary pictures that were all drawn uniquely by hand.

George Douglas-Menhinick, general manager at Soju, said, “We have seen Luxous’ previous work on its social media profiles and knew that the company was the best choice to create something never-before-seen for our restaurant. Allan came to us with a completely new concept that his team was able to deliver from start to finish and we were blown away.

“The finished product fits in perfectly with the theme of the menu, from the artificial planting on the walls to the blue-sky ceiling; the restaurant certainly isn’t like anything else in the area.”

Allan Smith of Luxous said, “Soju initially approached us to manufacture and install an existing design that had already been drafted for them; however, on looking at the existing plans, we knew it didn’t quite fit their needs. On further discussion with George, our team came together with fresh and exciting ideas taken from an investigation trip around various bars and restaurants in London. The owner was delighted with the results and, ultimately, gave us the go-ahead to deliver what we know best.

“We are extremely pleased with the outcome of the restaurant and plan to carry out many more renovations in the hospitality industry, both locally and further afield in the near future.”

Established in 2015, Luxous specialises in bespoke furnishings and product design. The company began life in owner Allan Smith’s garage, who started off making luxurious dog beds but has since progressed to creating unique office spaces and eye-catching items of furniture, such as transforming an iconic 1936 cast iron phone box into a sofa.

The company, located on the city’s Wellington Street, now employs six full time employees and has previously worked on a number of projects for the hospitality sector, including the recently opened Carron to Mumbai restaurant in Stonehaven, India on the Green in Ballater, Darts ‘n’ Arts dart club in Edinburgh as well as all work for Malones Bar, with further projects anticipated in the future. The team has also completed projects for numerous commercial offices.
