Parking in most city centre Council car parks for £1 after 5pm is to return to Aberdeen in January.
The move, which was approved at Aberdeen City Council’s Finance and Resources Committee today (Wednesday 5 November 2025), is designed to help businesses after the busy festive period is over. The £1 parking is for seven days a week after 5pm, through January and February.
The car parks due to be taking part are Virginia Street, the Gallowgate, Frederick Street, Summer Street, Chapel Street, West North Street, and the Denburn.
Council Co-Leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: “The £1 after 5pm scheme was popular the last time so we are happy to bring it back again.
“It will be an incentive for people to come into the city centre at the traditionally quieter months of January and February after the busy festive rush and we hope businesses will benefit from it.”
Committee convener Councillor Alex McLellan said: “The £1 parking after 5pm, seven days a week, will hopefully provide an added boost to city centre businesses in January and February which can be a bit quieter after the busy Christmas period.”

Motorists are reminded all city centre car parks can be accessed without going through the city centre bus gates. Motorists can still get to destinations, just by using a different route than they’re perhaps used to.
For the low emission zone, similar to those in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee, you can check if your vehicle is compliant online. Drivers of non-compliant vehicles can still access the city centre by using 10 out of the 14 city centre car parks – College Street, Union Square, Trinity Centre, Virginia Street, Frederick Street, West North Street, Gallowgate, Loch Street, Harriet Street, and Denburn.
