New conference and events manager appointed to Aberdeen Performing Arts

Aberdeen Performing Arts (APA), the charitable trust that manages three cultural venues in Aberdeen, has appointed Christine Ford as its new conference and events manager, in preparation for the re-opening of the historic Music Hall this coming winter.

Christine joins the company from Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) where she was a key member of the conference team. Christine was responsible for attracting a number of national and international conferences to Aberdeen and the AECC, working with various key stakeholders in the city to deliver attractive prospects for event organisers whilst also working with local clients on a range of other events held at AECC.

Bringing a wealth of industry experience, Christine will drive conference and events business for all three APA venues – His Majesty’s Theatre, the Music Hall and The Lemon Tree, with a primary focus on the Music Hall, but also exploring the opportunities for events to be held in the flexible spaces at The Lemon Tree and increasing corporate hospitality and events at His Majesty’s Theatre.

Christine said: “The teams at APA are all very passionate about what they do and I feel warmly welcomed into the APA family. It’s been a great start to what is shaping up to be an exciting year.”

Reflecting on her role she said: “Whilst there has always been a level of conference and events business at the APA venues, there is definitely untapped potential and it’s my job to spread the word and make sure that we’re on the radar for event organisers regionally, nationally and internationally. Our venues really do have that wow factor. They aren’t just beautiful, historic and unique – all three are city centre, close to the rail station and have parking available nearby. And we can’t wait to reveal the transformed Music Hall!”

APA Chief Executive Jane Spiers added: “Our transformational redevelopment of the Music Hall will not only make it a first-class venue for music and performance – it will also make it an ideal destination for conferences, meetings and other events thanks to our upgraded auditorium, new break out spaces and enhanced catering facilities. Within the building’s plans is a new conference suite on the first floor, which will be a versatile and welcoming space. Christine brings a wealth of experience in this field and we are delighted to welcome her to the team.”

Within the scope of the Music Hall works, which are due for completion by the end of 2018, are brand new conference facilities.

The venue will be suitable for many types of events, including exhibitions, conferences and seminars, dinners and receptions. For the first time in its history, the building will also offer street-to- seat access with a new access ramp and sesame lift at the main entrance.
