A new Scottish-based bookkeeping franchise has been launched called Astute Books, with the new business looking for franchisees across the UK. The new franchise is very affordable, and can be run from home on a full-time or part-time basis.

Good bookkeepers are in high demand, not only from small and medium sized businesses but also from accountancy practices looking to outsource their bookkeeping requirements. Finding a good bookkeeper is often a hit or miss, often relying on word of mouth recommendations without really knowing the background of the person or the level of training they have received.  This is why Astute Books has been launched; to take advantage of a thriving market with huge potential.  This demand is expected to grow exponentially with the proposed introduction of Making Tax Digital which could lead to quarterly reporting for all companies; this could potentially quadruple the workload for accountants and bookkeepers.

Astute Books has been launched by Douglas McBain, a qualified accountant who has run a thriving accountancy practice in Glasgow for 20 years as well as starting a number of successful businesses including a property letting franchise. This opportunity will greatly appeal to people looking to start a business which is totally flexible, offers a good work/life balance and a good income.  Astute Books will give you all the training and support you need to launch your own successful and profitable bookkeeping business.

Candidates do not need any prior accountancy knowledge as they will undergo two weeks of intensive training and home learning  in bookkeeping, accountancy and tax by a team of experts at Astute’s purpose-built training centre in Glasgow.  Astute will also show candidates how to set up their business and how and where to find clients.  There will be the support and back up of an established accountancy practice and six-months ongoing support following training as well as access to the latest accountancy and CRM software systems such as Xero to automate routine tasks.  In addition, Astute Bookkeepers will benefit from marketing and PR support, localised website and email plus VOIP system.  The only equipment requirements are a laptop, printer, scanner and your own transport as you may have to travel to visit clients to collect documents or discuss their bookkeeping requirements.

Douglas McBain, managing director, Astute Books said: “The business can be run on a full-time or part time basis so can fit in with family commitments.  You are your own boss but with the support of a well-established and experienced accountancy firm so you are not on your own. Ideally applicants should have attention to detail, like working with numbers and have basic IT knowledge.  An outgoing personality is essential as you will have deal with clients on a personal level and be able to source new business.  Much of the work is deadline driven so you need to be disciplined and self-motivated.  The business can be run from home so the overheads are reasonably low.”

He added: “Every business has to prepare accounts so the potential for the bookkeepers is huge.  There are not set territories, so they can deal with businesses in any location.  Much of the work is repeat business, for example VAT preparation so you should be able to establish a regular pipeline of work from clients.   Potential earnings can range from £15,000 to 30,000 a year, depending on your commitment and the profile of your client base.”

Astute Bookkeepers will be free to trade under the Astute brand or set up as independent bookkeepers.

The licence fee to include full training and initial support is £6995 for an introductory period.  Ongoing support is included for the first six months of the agreement and thereafter is chargeable at £195 per month.  The licence period if five years and there are no fees for renewing.
