Law firm, Addleshaw Goddard, is strengthening its Aberdeen energy team with the appointment of David McEwing as partner.

David, who joins the firm from Pinsent Masons, has more than 25 years’ experience in the energy sector, advising oil and gas companies and oilfield services businesses, as well as leading complex international corporate transactions and significant upstream investments. These include acting for Zennor Petroleum on its acquisition of First Oil and its UKCS assets, advising Simmons Private Equity in its UK and Far East investments, as well as acting for International listed oilfield service companies.

Joining a team of energy specialists in the firm’s Aberdeen office, David will play a significant role in developing the firm’s offering to the oil and gas sector, with a strong focus on international and cross-border transactions, building on his strong links to Norway, West Africa and the Middle East, using the firm’s international offices to support activity.Qualifying in 1992, David joined Pinsent Mason’s Aberdeen energy team in 2010, and was also a course convenor at the University of Aberdeen for 25 years. He was named as a leading individual in Legal 500 UK’s Corporate and Commercial rankings in 2018.

David’s appointment follows a strong year for the Aberdeen office, with a significant number of new clients in the oil and gas and digital sectors, including advising the shareholders of Ecosse Subsea.

This marks continued growth in the firm, following a number of key partner appointments in 2018. Ross McKenzie joined the Aberdeen office as a commercial and data partner and Lorna Finlayson was appointed to head up the financial regulation practice in Scotland. Additionally, Jacqui Langley-White strengthened the partner team in Scotland, bringing her experience in infrastructure projects and energy from the firm’s London office.

David McEwing said: “Addleshaw Goddard recognises the ambition and resilience of Aberdeen’s oil and gas sector and is investing heavily in its offering to clients, making the firm an exciting place to be as it sets its sights on both Scotland-wide and international growth.”

David Kirchin, partner and head of corporate in Scotland, said: “David is a strong addition to the team, bringing with him a wealth of technical expertise and an extensive knowledge of the local market, as well as being a well-known figure in the industry. His appointment marks part of our wider strategy to better serve businesses in the energy sector and the north east of Scotland, in their regional, national and international operations.”
