AN ABERDEENSHIRE food & drink festival is celebrating a cash boost.

Huntly Hairst has been awarded £1,550 from the Connect Local Regional Food Fund Award.

They were selected as one of 21 projects and businesses from across Scotland.

Laura McNeil, Huntly Hairst event organiser, said “We’re delighted to be given this award. It’s a great opportunity for us to grow and show everyone in Aberdeenshire what we have to offer.

“The event tagline is ‘celebrating rural life together’. It’s a great way for the community to come together and showcase the food and products that they’ve produced.”

Mairi Gougeon, Scottish Government rural affairs minister, said:  “I have been hugely impressed by the standard and range of food and drink initiatives across Scotland.

“Innovative projects like these not only help local economies grow, they also promote the importance of locally produced food and drink and the environmental benefits of sourcing produce close to home.

“This fund helps collaborative groups create new opportunities for small businesses and producers and promotes Scotland’s world-leading food and drink sector.”
