THE Covid-19 lockdown acted as a catalyst for change with accountancy professional body ICAS switch its learning and exams schedule online for the first time – with Hall Morrice’s Michael Smith among the first to sit its virtual exams.

Michael, who is working towards his final chartered accountancy exams, feared  his exam schedule might be interrupted but was delighted when he was able to continue his studies and sit exams as planned.

He said: “With so many other areas of life being disrupted, it was reassuring to be able to continue working towards my qualification at home, and then to sit my final exams in May.

“I did this at home with a ‘remote invigilator’. The IT worked well and all credit to ICAS as a professional body for working through the challenges to ensure the May and June exam diets could go ahead.”

Two other Hall Morrice students, Lee Foster and Craig Anderson also passed TPS financial reporting and tax exams, which they sat remotely in June.

Shonagh Fraser, Hall Morrice partner, said: “Our congratulations go to Michael, Lee and Craig for embracing this new form of learning and successfully passing their exams.

“We were pleased that ICAS was able to respond so quickly during what was a very challenging time. Switching its focus online ensured that our students were able to sustain the momentum, continuing their hard work and reaching their professional goals.”
