European Patent Applications published in 2016 from Aberdeen applicants have risen 31% in the last year.
A total of 71 European Patent Applications were published in 2016 from Aberdeen applicants, compared to 54 in 2015 and 56 is 2014.

Craig Watson of Intellectual Property Specialists HGF who compiled the figures said “With the oil price at challenging levels, we are seeing more focus on innovation to drive down the cost base. These are encouraging statistics and demonstrate the robustness of the knowledge based economy we have here in the North East”
Aberdeen City and Shire also continues to lead Scotland in the number of patent applications filed. In the same period, 42 European Patent Applications were filed from Glasgow based applicants and 53 from Edinburgh based applicants.
