NORTH East Scotland College library has received a funding boost from the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC) to promote the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
SLIC has awarded over £30,000 to five libraries across Scotland from its annual Innovation and Development Fund (IDF). The fund is aimed at supporting libraries at further and higher education institutions, as well as specialist libraries and information centres.
Among the winning bids is North East Scotland College library, which has been awarded £4,626 to put activities and resources in place to support staff and students in championing the sustainable development goals.
Throughout the year, the project will spotlight various national campaigns by organising events, highlighting resources, and creating new library services which will support local change. Among the activities planned in the project is the launch of litter pick packs that will be available to borrow from campus libraries for World Clean-up Day on 17 September 2022.
Pamela Tulloch, Chief Executive at SLIC, said: “As we emerge from the pandemic and continue rebuilding our communities, libraries, especially those in education and community settings, have an important role to play in supporting the skills we need.
“With this additional funding, libraries are able to explore new ideas and new ways of delivering their service, ensuring they are constantly adapting to the needs of their users. In addition, we can see from the winning bids that providing effective training and skills development is an important aspect of a modern library service.”
