Prospect 13 managing director Cerri McDonald created the awards after being moved by the wealth of projects, campaigns and programmes which have sprung up to give back to communities throughout her home city and beyond during the current crisis.

From free online fitness sessions and distributing essential supplies, to donations of PPE to the NHS and manufacturing hand sanitiser, the list of local finalists provides a snapshot of some of the fabulous work which has been taking place throughout the region.

Cerri said: “We are both delighted and overwhelmed that so many people have jumped on board this project to honour some of the great work that is taking place.

“The online engagement reached over 15,000 people in just a few days and over 1000 votes have been cast already showing the appetite to recognise those people, groups and organisations involved.

“For me, learning more about the diverse range of support and kindness being seen across the North East, truly makes be proud of my roots.  I feel humbled and inspired at the heart-warming, old school community spirit.”
