Harriet Cross MP has written to Transport Scotland calling for better signage on an A90 underpass in Aberdeenshire after a lorry narrowly avoided a collision when it drove the wrong way towards oncoming traffic.
The Gordon and Buchan MP warned that a fatality could have occurred on the B9000 slip road at the Newburgh turn-off if it wasn’t for the quick actions of an oncoming car to break suddenly.
Following the incident, Ms Cross has urged roads bosses to carry out an urgent review of the layout and visibility of existing signage at the junction.
She wants to see ‘No Entry’ signs put in place, in addition to new road markings stating the correct direction of traffic.

Gordon and Buchan MP Harriet Cross said: “This was an extremely dangerous incident that could so easily have resulted in a tragedy.
“Fortunately, the oncoming car saw the lorry coming and stopped early enough to avoid a head-on collision.
“But to make matters worse, it appears the lorry then drove down the wrong way of the dual carriageway which only increased the danger to those on the road at the time.
In Case You Missed it:
“It only takes one incident like this to have catastrophic consequences.
“The layout and current signage at the junction are clearly insufficient to prevent a dangerous mistake from occurring, particularly for drivers who may be unfamiliar with the area.
“That is why I have urged Transport Scotland to carry an urgent review of the road layout, signage and markings to prevent a catastrophic crash from occurring.”
