Aberdeen International Airport has announced a rise in its short-stay parking fees, with new charges coming into effect from 00:01 tomorrow morning.
In a notice issued by AGS Surface Access, the airport confirmed that the fee for 20 minutes in the short-stay car park will increase to £7, a £1 rise. The change follows a review of the airport’s parking facilities.
Despite the price increase, the airport emphasised that its free drop-off service remains unchanged. Customers can continue to use the long-stay car park for up to one hour free of charge, with a 24-hour on-demand shuttle service connecting the parking area to the terminal.
The update applies to all drivers using the short-stay facility and was shared with operators and fleet drivers as a courtesy ahead of implementation.
The parking fee hike blow to airport users after the “Sky-high £100 parking penalty in the vicinity of Aberdeen Airport” from December.
Scottish Conservative MSP for Aberdeenshire West, Alexander Burnett, who has been contacted by constituents about rises in the short stay fee, said: “This increase will penalise passengers travelling from rural areas who rely on a car to get to the airport.
“The price rise now means Aberdeen’s charge is almost the same as Heathrow’s which is unacceptable.

“I’m concerned that people will now think twice about travelling from Aberdeen and instead go to Edinburgh or Glasgow.
“Charges like this before you board the plane are a hindrance if public transport is not working effectively or in many cases, there are no buses to the airport for rural passengers.
“For many residents in Aberdeenshire and beyond, taking a bus to get to the airport is often longer than the flight itself which is not suitable if we are to encourage more people to use public transport.”
