ABERDEEN artists Kathryn McFarlane and Catriona Yates are collaborating in this exhibition, Colour Connection, to bring a splash of colour to Stonehaven.

This exhibition will feature a collection of new paintings by both artists whose work clearly demonstrates their fascination with colour. Everyone sees and perceives colour differently, but thoughtful colour combinations can elicit emotional responses that influence the way we perceive our environment.

The collaboration enables two very different, yet complementary styles of work to come together in this show. Colour is a key component of both artists work as they explore colour relationships and how colours interact with each other.

Kathryn and Catriona met through the Connected Artists Club, a fun and supportive online community for artists. Sharing experiences through a group builds a strong feeling of connectedness and as the only members from the north east of Scotland, a bond between the two soon developed.

Kathryn said “from our first meeting we quickly came to realise that we both shared a similar appreciation of design and a strong connection to colour. Being an artist can mean extended periods of working on your own, so it is vital to have a connection with like-minded individuals travelling along a similar path.”

Catriona said “the delight that we take in creating our work will be evident to the visitors to the show. A display of mixed work under the combined theme of colour connection will bring a splash of colour for the visitors to enjoy.”

Both the artists trained as graphic designers. Catriona has worked as a designer, production coordinator and marketing coordinator and Kathryn initially worked as a graphic designer, prior to a career shift to International Trade with Aberdeen City Council.

The exhibition opens on Tuesday, 7th June and will be open daily until Sunday, 12thJune.
