Stunt teams have been observed along the seafront, indicating active production in the Granite City. The move signifies an expansion of filming locations for the popular series, which previously centred its narrative and production around Edinburgh.
Yesterday, filming also took place at the Bon Accord Baths building on Justice Mill Lane, with the Chair of Bon Accord Heritage confirming that filming could assist with the reopening of the baths, which have been closed since 2008.

‘Dept. Q’, which premiered on Netflix in May 2025, quickly garnered significant viewership, spending six weeks in the global top ten on the streaming platform. The series, based on the bestselling ‘Department Q’ novels by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen, has been lauded for its dark, intricate storytelling and strong performances. Netflix officially commissioned a second series in August 2025, with production commencing in July 2026.

Matthew Goode leads the cast as the troubled DCI Carl Morck, a detective reassigned to a cold case unit following a traumatic incident. The ensemble cast also features Alexej Manvelov as Akram Salim, Leah Byrne as DC Rose Dickson, Jamie Sives as DI James Hardy, Mark Bonnar as Stephen Burns, and Kate Dickie as Chief Superintendent Moira Jacobson, all of whom are confirmed to return for the second series. Kelly Macdonald, who portrayed Dr Rachel Irving in the first series, is also listed by some sources to return.
The production’s presence in Aberdeen follows a call for extras issued several months ago, signaling the team’s preparations for the new filming areas. Crews have established a base near Pittodrie’s South Stand, with trailers and catering facilities on site. The presence of vans and motorcycles, including two-wheelers secured to a flatbed truck, has been noted at the filming location.
