Motorists in Aberdeen are experiencing frustrating delays in the southern part of the city as repairs commence on the deck and surface of the Queen Elizabeth Bridge.

Construction on the westbound lanes of the bridge started on Monday [September 1] and is expected to last for two weeks.

However, drivers are encountering substantial hold-ups in Torry and on surrounding roads, with the only detour currently available being the Victoria Bridge.

Vehicles trying to access from Wellington Road are facing lengthy queues, with backups extending as far as the Lidl on Greenwell Road.

The situation has been exacerbated by the ongoing closure of West Tullos Road due to a project to replace outdated underground cabling.

Aberdeen Travel shared on social media on Monday, labelilng the traffic situation as “gridlocked,” and also cautioned that South Esplanade West is experiencing issues due to the absence of parking restrictions.

It has been confirmed that drivers are still facing congestion today, with “slow traffic on A956 Wellington Road Northbound from A92 (Charleston junction) to Langdykes Road.”

Work on the Queen Elizabeth Bridge is expected to continue until September 29, but the road is scheduled to fully reopen to traffic by September 15.
