Following the announcement by the Labour Party that it intends to introduce a greater level of Windfall Tax on Oil and Gas profits (see our article https://aberdeenbusinessnews.co.uk/n-e-economy-under-threat-from-labour-plans-and-scottish-governments-attitude/), Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce has launched a commendable initiative to communicate the strength of feeling in the area on this subject. Whereas the Labour Party is willing to squeeze the last breath out of the Oil and Gas Industry and the SNP has abandoned its support to placate the minority of Greens in the Scottish Parliament, The Aberdeen Chamber is prepared to do what it can to protect the NE Economy. Humza Yousaf has made his position clear when commenting on the most recent award of new licences when he said that it was the wrong decision and that the NE could not expect support for unlimited oil and gas extraction.

Commenting on the prospect of a possible 100,000 UK job losses, a catastrophic event which would have a disastrous impact on the NE of Scotland, The Chamber said:

“We are hugely concerned about the impact that this could have on the North-east of Scotland, and we will be writing to Sir Keir Starmer and his team tomorrow afternoon to express our fears.

To demonstrate the strength of feeling in the region, we are seeking to add as many signatories as possible to the letter. “
