AN ABERDEEN-based charity which provides vital opportunities for children to learn life skills has unveiled an ambitious project to give a group of city primary school pupils the trip of a lifetime.

The Lifestars project was created at Dyce Academy by Neve McPherson in 2016 and has already raised tens of thousands of pounds to help local youngsters hone key life skills and qualities such teamwork and confidence using active learning.

Through activities such as lunchtime clubs and accessible, inclusive local out-of-school outings Lifestars has already touched the lives of numerous local children.  The organisation encourages senior pupils to become activity leaders, equipping them with a training pack to ensure they are armed with the knowledge to deliver inclusive sessions. The training has been developed in collaboration with SportAberdeen and Support for Learning staff at Dyce Academy with support from a range of organisations including city PE teachers, Active Schools coordinators, Aberdeen Football Club Community Trust, and Aberdeen City Council.

Now, Neve has set her sights on raising funds to take more than 40 P7 pupils from the city’s Hanover Street Primary School on a residential trip to Perthshire in June 2023.  The trip will be the first time pupils from the school have made such a trip in a decade, and Neve is encouraging local businesses and individuals to get on board with her efforts to make sure the dream becomes a reality.

Neve said: “Lifestars aim to put all of our effort and passion into making this extraordinary trip become a reality and we pride ourselves in being a charity that have the children at the forefront of everything we do.

“For those who choose to support our project with Hanover Street Primary School we feel it’s very important for them to see and understand what the trip means to the participant so each sponsored young person will create a fact file about the trip and what they hope to learn from it, to share with their sponsor.

“It’s a great way of our supporters getting direct feedback about the difference their donation makes in helping a youngster to achieve their goals, conquer their fears and build their confidence before heading up to the academy to begin the next stage of their academic careers.”
