The search is on to find the next winners of the north east’s annual tourism Oscars. Entries have now opened for the 2018 Aberdeen City and Shire Tourism Awards (ACSTA) with 14 accolades up for grabs for hotels, bars, attractions and other shining stars of the tourism scene.

The awards, which are now in their sixth year, celebrate the very best of the area’s tourism industry and are the regional final of Scotland’s national tourism awards scheme, the Scottish Thistle Awards.

ACSTA chairman Alison Christie says the awards help to underline the important role that both leisure and business travel play in the local area and puts the focus on those who go above and beyond for the region’s visitors.

She adds, “Year on year we see more entries coming forward and we believe this is because people now understand the true value of what they can bring to the table in terms of the tourism offering – an industry which in 2016 employed over 19,000 people locally and was worth over £337m to the local economy.

“Businesses, organisations and individuals who enter recognise that awards like ACSTA highlight areas of good practice and demonstrate a commitment to the customer experience.

“With categories recognising excellence in everything from restaurants to festivals – and the way in which organisations innovate and work together for the benefit of the local community – there is no area of tourism which the awards do not honour.

“And, of course, as well as awards for companies and organisations that are doing their bit to put the city and shire on the tourism map, there are awards that identify individuals who are going above and beyond to make the experience of every guest unforgettable.

“These awards are open to everyone who has a role in providing services for visitors to our area, from taxi drivers and tour guides, to receptionists and bar staff.”

Entries for this year’s ACSTA, which is supported by laundry and textile rental specialists Fishers, can be made online now at www.acsta.co.uk. It is free to enter and the closing date is July 1. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in November.
