Council tax in Aberdeen is expected to surge by nearly 10% as part of a series of important budget decisions to be made in a meeting scheduled for later today.

In a rare move, the local council has disclosed report documents ahead of the meeting, where they will officially determine their financial plans for 2025/26.

The documents, as reported by The Press and Journal, indicate a 9.85% increase in council tax—equating to an additional £13 million—as the administration seeks to address an £18 million deficit in its budget.

Additionally, parking fees are anticipated to rise by 5%, along with a reduction in free parking hours.

Moreover, the operating hours for the recently updated Provost Skene’s House and Tolbooth Museum are also expected to be reduced.

On another note, the £54 million Berryden Corridor roadworks initiative, which was paused in last year’s budget, is set to be reinstated.

This news follows Aberdeenshire Council’s announcement of a comparable 10% rise in council tax last week.
