Aberdeen has secured the top spot as Scotland’s “best place to visit” in December, according to travel specialists UK Hidden Gems, also being highlighted as an ideal location for a January getaway.
The Granite City was the only urban centre to feature in the publication’s “10 best places to visit in Scotland in December” list, which aims to guide travellers through the colder months for exploration.
UK Hidden Gems commended Aberdeen, stating:
“Aberdeen is perfect for nature lovers, offering easy access to the breathtaking Cairngorms National Park and the famous Dolphin Spotting tours at the harbour. For those with an interest in history, the city offers rich exploration opportunities. History buffs will love exploring its ancient castles, like Dunnottar Castle, perched dramatically on cliffs overlooking the sea.”
The city’s cultural vibrancy was also highlighted, with its “thriving arts scene, featuring galleries, festivals, and live music.”
In Case You Missed it:
The overall appeal of Aberdeen was encapsulated as delivering “a blend of adventure, culture, and serenity that evokes a genuine Scottish fairytale,” whether visitors are “strolling through historic Old Aberdeen or savouring fresh, locally sourced seafood.”
Following Aberdeen in the rankings for Scotland’s top December destinations was Fort William, which secured second place, while the Cairngorms National Park, Britain’s largest national park, claimed the third position.
Completing the top five were the Isle of Skye and Loch Ness.
