Aberdeen employers are invited to attend a major conference aimed at strengthening the city’s workforce and shaping future employability services.

Growing the Granite City Workforce,hosted by ABZWorks on behalf of Aberdeen’s Local Employability Partnership (LEP), will be held on Wednesday 29 October from 10am to 3.30pm at the Beach Ballroom. The event welcomes employers of all sizes from across the city.

Councillor Christian Allard, Co-Leader of Aberdeen City Council, said: “This event is a valuable opportunity to share insights and collaborate on building a skilled and resilient workforce for Aberdeen.  By working in partnership, we can ensure that the city’s employability services are shaped by the needs of local businesses and that our citizens are equipped with the skills they need to thrive.”

The conference will explore the skills and training needed to support Aberdeen’s current and future workforce, and how businesses can work collaboratively with the LEP to ensure the city is equipped for economic growth.

Attendees will hear from range of speakers and take part in roundtable discussions. Presentations will include:

  • Employability and the Local Outcome Improvement Plan / Regional Skills Strategy – Duncan Abernethy, Director of Business Development, North East Scotland College (NESCol) and Chair of Aberdeen Prospers;
  • Employability support for parents –Laura Shibuya, Senior Project Officer – Child Poverty, ABZWorks;
  • Funded work experience opportunities – Kerry Wylie, Project Officer, ABZWorks;
  • Supporting collaboration in the city – Mike Duncan, Development Manager (North Scotland), Federation of Small Business;
  • Access to Work – Martin Morley, Group Director – Operations, Jobs and Careers Service, Department for Work and Pensions.

The event will also feature a panel discussion and networking lunch. Outputs from the roundtable session will inform the Local Employability Partnership delivery plan and training and skills provision in Aberdeen.
