Anyone can submit their films for free, but need to hurry, as the deadline for submissions is Friday 27 September.

The 48 Hour Film Project presents similar Shorts Showcases in Edinburgh and Inverness, and the idea is to give a platform to local filmmakers. The event is also a great chance to learn more about both Crow House Projects and the 48 Hour Film Project.

After Shorts Showcase, The 48 Hour Film Project will present their signature competition in Aberdeen over the 8-10 November 2024 weekend. Teams of filmmakers will write, shoot, and edit short films in just 48 hours. All films will be screened at Cineworld Union Square on Saturday 16 November.

Sam Goldblatt and Louise E. Knowles produce the 48 Hour Film Project in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness, and it is by far Scotland’s largest and most prolific filmmaking event of all time, having created over a thousand short films over the last 16 years.

This is the first filmmaking competition to be held in Aberdeen in many years, and it has already proven popular with many teams entering. There is currently space for just 10 more teams to sign up.
The winning team will win £1500 towards their trip to Filmapalooza, the international 48 Hour Film Festival, held in Seattle, Washington, USA in March 2025.

Crow House Projects is a filmmaking initiative based in Aberdeen, committed to empowering local talent and building a creative filmmaking community. Through programs like Film Accelerator, workshops, networking events and local film screenings, they provide hands-on learning and mentorship from industry professionals, transforming the region into a vibrant hub for storytelling on screen.

Jamie Sundance, a leader of Crow House Projects said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with the 48 Hour Film Project to showcase the incredible talent emerging from Aberdeenshire. This event gives local filmmakers a unique platform to share their stories, and I’m excited to see the creativity and passion they bring to the screen. It’s also a great opportunity to introduce everyone to our new premises and continue building a vibrant filmmaking community here in Aberdeen.”

Louise E. Knowles, producer of the 48 hour Film Project Scotland, said: “Having grown up in Aberdeenshire it’s really exciting for me to be bringing some filmmaking opportunities to the North East of Scotland. There’s a huge amount of creative talent in Aberdeen and the surrounding areas and we’re really looking forward to showcasing their unique perspectives on the big screen.”

Sam Goldblatt, producer of the 48 Hour Film Project Scotland, said: “From Codona’s to Fittie, from the Maritime Museum to the Zoology Building, from Balmedie Beach to Books & Beans, we love Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire and we are partial to a wee rowie. After a successful Shorts Showcase here last year, we’re stoked to be back and meet new filmmakers and spik a bit of the Doric. Aberdeen has its own very special vibe and we want to give ABZ filmmakers a chance to tell their stories on the world stage. ‘Mon the Deen!”
