The Mamacita Foundation, an Aberdeen-based charity dedicated to empowering underserved communities, is urging the people of the North East of Scotland to vote for their project in the JustTransition Participatory Budgeting Fund.

This vital funding opportunity will allow the Foundation to expand its reach and make a tangible difference in the lives of those it serves.

The charity is dedicated to alleviating food poverty and supporting families in need across the North East of Scotland, including migrants, asylum seekers, members of Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups and those experiencing extreme hardship.

If successful, the Mamacita Foundation will secure £27,988 from the JustTransition Fund, to transform their operations in Aberdeen by acquiring an electric van to streamline food collection, distribution, enhancement of volunteer inclusion and overall community wellbeing. Reduced carbon emissions will also enhance their ability to efficiently gather surplus food donations and deliver them to those in need in Aberdeen City and Shire.

The Mamacita Foundation, whose slogan is ‘Never Feel Alone’, is located at Hilton Convention Centre, 13 Smithfield Road. It operates drop-in sessions every Tuesday evening from 6:00pm at its Hilton Centre to enable access to its foodbank and support activities. It also offers a range of support services including employability skills training & a CV clinic, basic supplies provision, emergency aid and language classes.

Founder of The Mamacita Foundation Vivian Draghici, commented:

“The Mamacita Foundation is committed to creating opportunities and fostering resilience in our community. This funding will help us take another step toward achieving that goal, particularly in supporting the next generation to adapt to and thrive in a sustainable future. We’re calling on our friends, supporters, and everyone in the North East to vote for us and help make this a reality.”

Voting is open to all who live, work, or access services in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Participants must select their top five projects when casting their vote online. To vote for the Mamacita Foundation, simply visit www.jtpbfund.scot/aberdeen, enter your valid postcode, and choose your preferred projects. Voting closes at 5 PM on Wednesday, 27th November 2024.
