THREE Sentinel Marine vessels have been chartered by the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) to operate in EU and international waters as additional platforms for fisheries inspections. Sentinel Marine was awarded the 24-month contract which has a potential renewal to a total duration of six years following a public call for tender by EFCA. The total contract value is estimated at Euro90 Million.
The Ocean Guardian, Ocean Protector and Ocean Sentinel, which operate from the Sentinel Marine Netherlands office, under the Portuguese flag will strengthen the operational capacity of the EFCA in the monitoring, control and surveillance of fisheries according to the Common Fisheries Policy. These are the only patrol vessels whose operations are managed by an EU agency following a mandate from the EU institutions to strengthen EFCA´s operational capacity for assisting the Member States and the European Commission in the monitoring, control and surveillance of fisheries.
The state of the art multi role vessels (MRVs) will operate in the Mediterranean, the Black Sea to the Western Waters, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. They will also provide support during search and rescue situations, maritime surveillance and pollution response.
Approximately 40% of the Sentinel Marine fleet is now operating outside the oil and gas sector.
Rory Deans, chief executive of Sentinel Marine says; “Our fleet of MRVs is the newest. They are all fitted out with the latest dynamic positioning technology and all come with a green passport which lists all of their construction materials. They are the cleanest, greenest and therefore most efficient vessels and flexible MRVs making them idea for diversifying into new markets.
In Case You Missed it:
“Ten years ago at the inception of Sentinel Marine, 100% of our fleet was operating in the oil and gas sector within the North Sea. We’ve always commissioned vessels which have a multi-role function which are flexible across many operations. As we celebrate our first decade our expansion into new sectors and geographies sees 40% of our fleet chartered as fisheries support vessels and Sentinel Marine working in waters as far as Libya. We continue to have a strong presence in the oil and gas sector, but this diversification sees us assisting with fisheries compliance and contributing to a safe, secure and sustainable sea.”
The Sentinel Fleet has been designed to perform a wide range of tasks including collision avoidance; oil spill recovery; patrolling waters for fisheries agencies; fast response; in-field transfers; search and rescue; border control and disruption of criminal activities.
