International Medical Management (IMM) is turning ‘Blue Monday’ into ‘You! Monday’ – a day for optimism and self-development.

The Aberdeen-headquartered business wants to help bring cheer to a day previously dubbed the most depressing of the year and reclaim it as #YouMonday.

Based in Bon Accord Square, the team provides a range of medical services for offshore and onshore industries and believes that health and wellbeing are key to protecting an organisation’s greatest asset… its people.

Blue Monday was a term first used in 2005 by a UK travel company, which said the third Monday of January was when happiness levels were at their lowest due to cold weather, festive period financial hangovers and when New Year’s resolutions start to fall by the wayside.

However, IMM wants to flip the switch on this and instead use Monday as a time for hope, forward-planning and self-love.

Dr Louise Slaney, IMM Medical Director, said: “It’s not always easy to embrace this time of the year but we can use it as a period of reflection and planning. We can use Monday as a day to focus on ourselves – our mental and physical health, our wellbeing, our careers and what we’d like 2025 to look like for us personally.

“With so much doom and gloom across the world, we should focus our attentions on what we can control rather than be pulled into a day when we’re told we should feel miserable.”

Louise said businesses have a critical role to play in changing the January narrative.

She added: “Let’s help the health and wellbeing of our people by promoting a day of positivity, rather than negativity. Boost the morale of your teams and use ‘You! Monday’ for fun, celebration and to show the gratitude you have for the people who make your organisations tick.

“Help give your staff cause for optimism and excitement for the year ahead. Whether it’s events, fun challenges or career development opportunities, January can become a month for planning.

“Your business could engage the help of a life coach and hold workshops with employees to help them reach their full potential, using mood boards and manifestation techniques to set objectives.

“It can also be seen as a time for learning – whether that’s offering employees development opportunities, holding a quiz or launching a book club.

“On January 20 itself, consider a dress down day, a buffet, or a charity fundraiser and FLIP THE SWITCH to #YouMonday!”
