26/09/2024

The Aberdeen Ideation Bootcamp, organised by KnowVate Hub in collaboration with the Royal Bank of Scotland, recently concluded a successful three-day event designed to help aspiring entrepreneurs transform their ideas into actionable business plans. The Bootcamp provided an intensive environment where participants could learn from thought leaders and experienced facilitators, fostering innovation and growth.

Emeka Ebeniro, the Bootcamp Programme Coordinator and Growth Marketer, expressed his admiration for the participants’ progress. “I was deeply inspired by the participants’ journeys over the three days,” he stated. “The breakthroughs and personal growth were rewarding to witness. It was an honour to guide them through this crucial step in their entrepreneurial journeys.”

The event began with a session led by Sally Dale, who introduced the Lean Model Canvas. This tool helps founders focus on solving customer problems rather than being distracted by their own solutions. Dale emphasized, “Entrepreneurs often fall in love with their ideas, but successful businesses are built on solving real customer problems.”

Participants were encouraged to delve deeply into understanding customer issues. Mike Akintayo, a participant, reflected on this realisation: “I realised that I had been focusing too much on my solution, without fully understanding the problem I was trying to solve.” This session set the stage for a broader understanding of customer needs.

Andreas Melvær led the next phase, guiding participants through his 5-Step Prototyping Framework. He urged them to reevaluate their assumptions about customers and solutions, stating, “Prototyping is where the magic happens. You can’t be afraid to question everything you think you know about your business.” This approach allowed participants to refine their ideas through multiple iterations.

Day two focused on branding, with facilitator Keye Oduneye helping entrepreneurs craft compelling brand narratives. He highlighted that “Your brand is not just a logo or a tagline—it’s the story that people will connect with.” Participants learned to communicate their unique value propositions effectively.

Throughout the Bootcamp, attendees heard from successful entrepreneurs like Joy Kelikume Oziomaaka and Enoch Adeyemi. Enoch shared insights into business registration and financial management, emphasizing that “Entrepreneurship can be lonely, and self-doubt is a constant companion. But when you have clarity on your business model, target audience, and finances, you can move forward with confidence.”

The final day concentrated on pitching skills and networking opportunities. Participants presented their business ideas to peers and facilitators, receiving valuable feedback. Tolulope Abikoye commented on this experience: “The pitching session was nerve-wracking, but it was a great opportunity to test the waters and get real feedback.”

Onyinye Igbokwe, Programme Director, reflected on the event’s impact: “The gaps many founders have in their businesses were evident during the Bootcamp. We worked hard to address these, giving them the tools to build scalable and sustainable ventures.”

As the Bootcamp prepares to move to Glasgow in October, it promises continued support for entrepreneurs seeking to refine their business ideas. Emeka Ebeniro concluded optimistically: “This is just the beginning. We’re excited to continue supporting entrepreneurs as they work toward creating sustainable and impactful businesses.”

The Glasgow Bootcamp will take place from October 2-4, offering limited spots for entrepreneurs eager to connect with industry experts. For more information and registration details, visit KnowVate Hub’s website.
