Aberdeen motorists are set to encounter significant travel disruption over the next six weeks as a section of South Anderson Drive prepares for a partial closure. The southbound carriageway, located between Broomhill Road and Ruthrieston Road, will be affected from July 6.
The closure is a critical measure to assist ongoing gas network upgrade works by energy company SGN. Engineers will be carrying out essential improvements to the city’s gas infrastructure within this period.

While residents will retain access to their properties along the affected stretch, through traffic will be prevented. Consequently, an official diversion route has been established. Road users travelling southbound are advised to utilise Broomhill Road and Great Southern Road as an alternative.
A spokesperson for SGN urged commuters to plan accordingly, stating: “Please plan ahead, leave extra time for your journey and consider using the alternative route.”
The company confirmed that extensive planning has been undertaken in conjunction with local authorities to mitigate inconvenience. The upgrades are part of SGN’s broader programme to replace older metallic gas pipes with modern plastic infrastructure, aiming to ensure a safe and reliable gas supply for homes and businesses for decades to come.
