A new study has found that only 24.59% of entry-level jobs in Aberdeen pay above the city’s median wage.
That’s according to researchers at BusinessFinancing.co.uk, who compared thousands of job listings to local wages to reveal which cities around the UK are home to the largest percentage of high-paying entry-level jobs.
They found that Aberdeen offers the lowest percentage of high-paying entry-level jobs (24.59%) in Scotland. Meanwhile, 42.67% of entry-level jobs in Dundee pay above the city’s median salary – the highest percentage in Scotland.
The UK’s Best Cities for Highly Paid Entry-Level Jobs
The Methodology Behind This Study
BusinessFinancing.co.uk started by building a list of UK cities and towns above 50K population, based on data from the UK Government. They also gathered the median local wage for each location, based on data from the Office for National Statistics.
Next, the team conducted searches inside Indeed using keywords related to entry-level jobs and counted the number of jobs available in every UK location.
These are the keywords used:
- Entry level
- Assistant
- Trainee
- Graduate
- Junior
Then, they added the median local wage as a minimum wage filter for each location and recorded the count of entry-level jobs above the median salary for each area. These counts were used to calculate the percentage of entry-level jobs above the median salary in each city/town. Locations with fewer than 30 entry-level job ads were removed from the dataset. This study was completed in August 2024.
