Dozens of school buildings across Aberdeen are set to benefit from repair and improvement works as part of a £27.164 million programme to upgrade council properties over the next three financial years.
The Condition & Suitability Programme, approved at Aberdeen City Council’s Finance and Resources Committee on 5 August 2026, will fund a wide range of projects across the city’s school estate, from roof repairs and boiler replacements to security improvements, toilet refurbishments and classroom alterations.
Committee convener Councillor Alex McLellan said the council was investing heavily in its estate each year, including school upgrades, to support communities and young people.
“We are spending a huge amount maintaining and investing in our estate every year, including upgrades to school buildings, across the city.
“These works complement the larger school projects underway across the city, ensuring we continue to provide quality facilities for our communities and for our young people.”
Council Co-Leader Ian Yuill said investment in education was vital to the city’s future, adding that several schools were already benefitting from work under the current programme.
“Investing in schools and education is vital for our city’s future.
“In addition to the school extensions and new sports pavilion which are nearly finished, there are several other schools benefitting from investment in buildings.
“The Council is committed to improving the school estate across the city. This includes work almost completed at Harlaw Academy and Bridge of Don Academy as part of the current Condition & Suitability Programme while looking ahead at the dozens of schools to benefit for the next tranche of work.”
Among the schools included in the latest round are Bridge of Don Academy, Dyce Academy, Harlaw Academy, Northfield Academy and Oldmachar Academy, alongside a long list of primary schools and other local education buildings.
At Bridge of Don Academy, work will include internal alterations to support community activities, new partitions for science labs, a replacement passenger lift, lighting upgrades and kitchen improvements. Dyce Academy is due to receive replacement light fittings, while Harlaw Academy will see flat roof replacements, refurbishment and lighting upgrades.
Elsewhere, Northfield Academy will get an upgraded kitchen gas supply and ventilation system, and Oldmachar Academy will see drama studio lighting works, kitchen system upgrades and lift replacement.
Primary school projects include new entrance and flooring works at Abbotswell School, an atrium roof replacement and new nursery entrance at Broomhill School, CCTV replacement at Charleston School, boundary fencing at Cornhill School and a full kitchen and dining area refurbishment at Cults School.

Other planned improvements include toilet upgrades at Dyce School and Kingswells School, flooding and fire alarm measures at Fernielea School, window and door replacements at Glashieburn School, security and boiler works at Quarryhill and Woodside schools, and a new secure front entrance and visitor waiting area at Scotstown School.
Further work is also planned at Kirkhill, Middleton Park, Skene Square, St Joseph’s RC, Tullos and Woodside schools, as the council continues its wider programme of estate improvements across Aberdeen.
The scheme is intended to address condition issues and suitability needs across the school estate, while supporting ongoing investment in facilities for pupils, staff and the wider community.
