The FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) is set to roar back onto UK soil with a brand new Scottish round – WRC Rally Scotland – to be headquartered in Aberdeen from 2027.
Motorsport UK has finalised a three‑year agreement with WRC Promoter GmbH, securing the North East’s place on the international rally calendar for the first time. The event has received backing from the Scottish Government, Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Council.
Rally HQ will be based at P&J Live, the city’s state‑of‑the‑art conference and arena complex, with competitive gravel stages planned across forests throughout the North‑east. The exact date and stage details will be confirmed in due course.
Julie Wood, Aberdeen City Council’s Chief Officer for City Growth and Regeneration, said the championship would deliver “a major economic boost for Aberdeen, with millions in local spending and more than £80 million projected for the North‑east over three years.”
She added: “Our engineering strengths and excellent infrastructure make the region an ideal host, giving us a platform to showcase the North East to a global audience of 1.3 billion. Alongside the sporting spectacle, previous events have delivered meaningful community benefits through STEM initiatives, volunteering and inclusion programmes, opening doors for people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved.”
In Case You Missed it:
The championship currently features 14 rounds across four continents. With Rally Scotland joining the calendar from 2027, the UK is set to reclaim its place among the world’s top rally destinations after more than a decade away from the WRC stage.
