Specialist children’s shoe store Bob & Lulu is partnering with an Aberdeen health professional to run free drop in clinics to raise awareness of the importance of foot health.

BOB & Lulu, located in the city’s Ashley Road, is a boutique children’s shoe shop, gift and clothing boutique, speciliaising in measuring children’s feet to ensure they are wearing the correct fitting shoes from pre-walking until they start school and beyond.

The store will welcome local podiatrist Amy Maclean to the first in a series of free foot clinics, today from 10.30am-12.30pm, in what is believed to be the first event of its kind in the city.

Foot health specialist Amy runs her own practice, Amy Maclean Podiatry, based out of Spear Physiotherapy and Aberdeen Sports Village.

Bob & Lulu owner Lisa Durward said she was delighted to be welcoming Amy to the store to help spread the message about the importance of wearing the correct fitting footwear.

“Amy is very passionate about raising awareness and educating the public about foot health and the benefits for children when they wear the right size of shoe for their age and stage,” said Lisa.

“Our children’s foot health plays such an important role in their overall health and physical comfort day to day.

“Amy’s professional intentions align closely with our own goals to educate and inform. Our aim is to provide every child with correctly fitted shoes which is a vitally important component for future foot health as adults.”

Parents can bring their children to the 20-minute appointment to chat with Amy and to get professional advice on any foot concerns or issues.

As well as the free clinic, Amy and Lisa will host an Instagram live to address any concerns from parents on their little ones’ foot health and answer some of the most commonly asked questions.

Despite the challenges of lockdown, Bob & Lulu has remained committed to providing its customers with a vital measure and fit service.

“I believe a proper measure and fit service should be among the top parenting checklist priorities – I truly believe off the rack shoe purchases are damaging the development of our children’s feet. “For parents, knowing your child is benefiting hugely from wearing the right size and fit of shoe is priceless.”
