Councillors agreed to a motion recognising Independence Day and extended a welcome to Ukrainian citizens who have moved Aberdeen since the beginning of the war.
An official thank-you was also made to those in the city who have provided humanitarian aid through the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust.
Yesterday the council flew Ukraine’s flag next to the Town House to mark the 31st anniversary of the country’s independence from the USSR.
The Lord Provost David Cameron raised the flag on a new civic flagpole, installed on the grassed area of Broad Street.
The Lord Provost said: “Our city has opened its arms to Ukrainians fleeing their homeland by offering help and somewhere to stay.”
“We are proud to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine.”
The raising of the flag was followed by Marischal College being illuminated in the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
The new flagpole replaces one on the Town House and is mounted on a hinged bracket so that it can be removed for special events, such as the Christmas Village.
