THE annual ‘Spring Concert’ by Aberdeen Student Show is scheduled to take place at 2pm on Wednesday, April 3rd at Holburn South Church, as part of their fundraising efforts.

With a history spanning 103 years, Aberdeen Student Show has grown a strong reputation for its quick-witted productions at His Majesty’s Theatre, yet its Spring Concert, a significant part of its fundraising, often goes unnoticed.

Aberdeen Student Show’s Spring Concert is a long running staple of the societies calendar, giving the students the valuable opportunity to test out material and practice in front of Aberdeen’s audiences before taking to the HMT stage later in the month. It also gives those who join a chance for a sing song, a catch up and a cup of tea!

Aberdeen Student Show are teaming up with local talents, with the mother and son duo of The Flying Pig’s Craig Pike and BBC Two’s Rock Till We Drop star Eileen Pike delivering an afternoon of singalong songs and classic Student Show numbers.

Hannah Jarret, Granddaughter of Eileen Pike, and niece of Craig Pike is part of this year’s Administration Team and upcoming production. She expressed her enthusiasm for the family involvement in the event: “It is really lovely to come together and do something we all love, my Grandma and Craig love to be a part of the Spring Concert. It’s definitely my favourite fundraiser of the year!”

All proceeds from the afternoon will count towards the final sum following the His Majesty’s show, later this month. Last year’s production of “Ayetanic” raised a record-breaking £125,000 for 50 local charities.

This year, the Aberdeen Student Show is supporting an impressive 66 local charities. With thanks to the generous donations of local businesses, every penny that is raised from the ticket sales will go directly to the charities.

Student show Administrator Meg Stanger has this to say about the student’s annual Spring Concert: “I’d say it is one of the highlights in our fundraising calendar, we are so excited to perform some songs and hopefully convince people to buy some tickets!”

Meg, who is a fourth year Physiotherapy student at Robert Gordon University, continued, “We’ve already sold over 4000 tickets so it’s looking to be a fantastic audience, I can’t wait to get the production on the stage!”

Aberdeen Student Show’s Spring Concert will take place on Wednesday 3rd April in Holburn South Church Hall, with doors opening at 1:30pm for a 2pm start. An entry donation of £5 includes refreshments and fine pieces throughout the event. There will also be a raffle on offer to raise further funds for local charities.

Alongside preparing for the Spring Concert, the cast and production team are also preparing to return to the stage of His Majesty’s Theatre from 24th – 27th April with their Doric comedy, Mounthoolin Rouge!

Tickets for Mounthoolin Rouge! Which will run at His Majesty’s Theatre from April 24th – 27th 2024, are available through www.aberdeenperformingarts.com or by contacting Aberdeen Box Office.
