A city centre ice cream parlour is getting ready to serve up more than just dessert, as it undergoes a vibrant interior redesign inspired by its farm roots.

Mackie’s 19.2, the Marischal Square parlour run by Mackie’s of Scotland, is set to close for three weeks this February for a full interior refresh, the first major makeover since it opened in 2017.

The redesign is being led by local interior designer Nina Angus, founder of Cushion Interiors, who will neutralise the parlour’s previously bright colours, introducing wood finishes and a warm, earthy palette that connects the space back to Mackie’s farm and the wider brand aesthetic.

The redesign also brings in the talents of respected local joiner Gregor Moir, who has been enlisted to help deliver a finish that’s both high quality and homely.

Yvette Harrison, Parlour Manager at Mackie’s 19.2, said: “We’re all excited about the changes. The new look brings the feel of the farm into the heart of Aberdeen and it’s still recognisably Mackie’s, just with a more grown-up and welcoming vibe.”

The makeover follows a string of creative projects from the 19.2 team, including the launch of a sell-out Tall Ships-inspired sundae event.

The parlour will close after trading on 14 February to allow the refurbishment works to take place, with the team aiming to reopen in March once the improvements are complete.

As well as a design overhaul, the layout will be updated to enhance flow and efficiency. A new one-way system will be introduced, alongside two self-service ordering kiosks aimed at reducing queues during busy periods.

The team is also adding a dedicated children’s play area, a first for the venue, plus a refreshed outdoor seating area to make the most of Marischal Square’s bustling atmosphere in warmer months.

Yvette added: “The space has served us brilliantly for nearly a decade, but it’s time for a refresh – not just how it looks, but how it works.

“With the new layout, play area and kiosks, we’re making it easier and more enjoyable for every kind of customer.

“The doors might be shut for a little while, but we’re working behind the scenes to make sure the next time you step inside, it’s even more of a treat than before.”

A new toppings station will be installed at the till, designed to showcase the parlour’s range of sauces, sprinkles and sweet add-ons, while an upgraded display will promote Mackie’s chocolate range and merchandise.

Located just 19.2 miles from Mackie’s family farm, the Marischal Square parlour has become a Granite City favourite since opening, known for its indulgent sundaes, fresh milkshakes and farm-made ice cream and chocolate.
