Aberdeen’s rising table tennis star, Kiishi Adekola, has brought home double gold for Scotland following a remarkable performance at the Table Tennis Home Nations 2025, held from 7–9 November in Dublin, Ireland.
The 14-year-old prodigy delivered an exceptional display of skill, focus and determination, securing medals in all three of her events against top competitors from England, Wales, Ireland, the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey.
Her results were as follows:
- Cadet Singles – Gold
- Cadet Doubles – Gold
- Cadet Teams – Silver
Adekola’s success contributed to Scotland’s impressive overall tally of six gold, four silver and six bronze medals, marking one of the nation’s strongest performances at the Home Nations in recent years.
Her coach, Natalie Gallan, praised the young athlete’s resilience and mental strength during one of the most tense matches of the tournament.
“What Kiishi showed in that final was pure grit and heart. Coming back from 10–6 down in the fifth set to win it was incredible. It was a moment of true resilience and strength. I’m beyond proud of her achievements at the Home Nations and I know this is only the beginning of something special.”
Currently the only young female Scottish player training with the Great Britain Development Squad in England, Adekola continues to impress national coaches with her focus and work ethic.
“Kiishi has shown tremendous growth over the past year,” one of her coaches commented. “Her discipline and dedication are inspiring; she’s a real ambassador for the next generation of Scottish players.”
Her parents, Oyin and Ade Adekola, expressed immense pride in their daughter’s achievements, describing her success as a testament to her hard work and determination.
“Watching Kiishi compete with such confidence and heart is just incredible. She works so hard, and to see her representing Scotland and winning is every parent’s dream. The whole family and her coaches are so proud.”
In addition to her sporting achievements, Kiishi is celebrated for her humility, positive energy, and commitment to inspiring other young girls to take up sport. She also continues to excel academically while balancing an intensive training schedule.
Acknowledging the role of local support, the Adekola family extended their gratitude to Inverurie Sport Youth Initiative (IYSF) and Aberdeen Sports Village (ASV) for their continued financial and developmental support.
The Table Tennis Home Nations Championships is one of the sport’s most prestigious annual tournaments, bringing together the top players from across the UK and Ireland to compete for national pride.
For Kiishi Adekola, her double gold in Dublin marks another milestone in what promises to be a bright and inspiring sporting career for Scotland.
