Aberdeen based laboratory Caledonian Optical, a part of the Duncan and Todd Group, have picked up the prestigious ‘Lens Product of the Year 2018’ at the Optician Awards 2018 for their Arc Steady varifocal lens.
Caledonian Optical is one of a select few independent ophthalmic lens laboratories that have harnessed the full capabilities of freeform technology in the UK. The company was established in 1976 and since has invested in the latest technology, research and manufacturing to produce high quality lenses made in Britain.

The ARC Steady lens, launched to the market in June 2017 (with the support of IOT), is a progressive lens completely personalised that perfectly balances the visual fields from near and far. ARC Steady has been developed with the latest innovation in digital lens designs that offers wearers excellent image stability and visual comfort.
A survey completed with a group of UK Optometrists that are prescribing ARC Steady lenses to their patients. Results showed that 100% of Optometrists surveyed were very satisfied with the performance of ARC Steady lenses. All of them indicated that the ARC Steady is an innovative product, easy to prescribe and adapt by users.
Confidence of optometrist with ARC Steady are also reflected in Caledonian figures. Thanks to ARC Steady lenses, Caledonian saw a 14% increase in orders overall in 2017, Arc orders increased by 11% which contributed to 20% of total sales and since launch non-tolerance rejection rate of Arc Steady has been less than 1.5%.

Thanks to its unique design the lateral distortion is drastically reduced so the users can enjoy a natural vision at all distances. The main purpose of ARC Steady lenses is to create a wow effect in users and practitioners thanks to a real visual perception improvement.
