Mental Health Aberdeen (MHA) is proud to present Diamonds in the Rough, Aberdeen’s first-ever all-female charity golf event, celebrating 75 years of MHA and its unwavering support for mental health in the North East

The charity is inviting teams from across the North East to join them on Friday 20th June 2025 at the stunning Newburgh-on-Ythan Golf Club for a fabulous day of golf, connection, and community.

Feature of this inaugural event include a four-ball competition with a shotgun start, refreshments across the day finishing with a two-course meal, and a stylish Prosecco cart on the 9th green.

Fun and friendly competitions include ‘Closest to the Pin’, ‘Longest Drive’, and the sure to be exciting ‘Beat the Chief Executive’, with a prize presentation taking place in the clubhouse.

Teams of 4 cost £600 (VAT not applicable) and whether you’re a regular golfer or just in it for the fun, Diamonds in the Rough is the perfect way to enjoy a fantastic day outdoors while making a difference.

Proceeds from this event will go directly to support ACIS, MHA’s adult counselling service, which provides free, confidential, person-centred counselling to individuals across Aberdeen City.

MHA’s counselling services are a lifeline for thousands of people each year. Whether someone is navigating bereavement, trauma, relationship issues, or depression, ACIS offers a safe space to be heard and supported by qualified professionals.

Libby Stainer, fundraising coordinator at MHA says: “As MHA celebrates its Diamond Anniversary, marking 75 years of service, the charity is more committed than ever to encouraging positive mental health in all forms. Golf has been shown to support mental wellbeing, it offers an opportunity to de-stress, build community, and connect with the outdoors.

“Choosing a golf event felt like a natural fit for MHA. It aligns perfectly with our focus on promoting good mental health through both individual support and community engagement. With the stunning backdrop of Newburgh-on-Ythan and a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere, we hope this first of its kind event will bring people together, and raise vital funds for a cause that touches everyone”

Hannah McDonald, development officer at MHA adds: “We’re so excited about organising Aberdeen’s first female charity golf competition. We’ve had interest from golfers of all levels, from beginners to pros, and all are keen to come together and do something fun for mental health.”

MHA is actively seeking sponsors and local supporters to help make this event as impactful as possible. To book a team or request sponsorship details, please contact [email protected]
