THE prestigious Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) has approved local Aberdeen firm Thundercat Training as their first and only environmental training company in the Granite City and the North-east of Scotland.

The Institute, whose mission is “transforming the world to sustainability”, welcomes the development which reduces the carbon footprint of attendees from the local area who previously travelled to other parts of the UK to access training.

Available courses include Environmental Sustainability Skills for the Workforce and Environmental Sustainability Skills for Managers, with more IEMA courses in the pipeline. The courses are suitable for companies operating within a range of sectors including oil and gas, rail, transport, manufacturing, and construction; and the increasing requirement to focus on the environment and sustainability means that the market for such training is a growing one.

John Richardson, Founder of Thundercat Training, said: “The process to becoming an IEMA approved training centre has been a rewarding one as the organisation is meticulous when choosing providers, standards have to be met and maintained and that aligns perfectly with our ethos.

“While we work with a global client base, I am delighted to bring this bespoke training to our home city of Aberdeen where not only are we saving our attendees time and costs, we are also helping to reduce emissions on travelling.

“Despite the challenges in the local area in recent years, we as a company see the benefits of being located in the northeast of Scotland and want to enhance what’s available to its businesses and workforce”.

Sarah Mukherjee MBE, CEO of IEMA said: “I’m really pleased Thundercat Training will be offering IEMA training courses at such a crucial time for the future of the environment. In order to tackle the climate crisis, we must have a workforce equipped with the training to transition to a more sustainable economy.

“We need sustainability skills in every sector of the economy, including in those sectors and communities that will be most affected by the move towards a low carbon world to ensure a just transition.”
