Aberdeen social enterprise The Breadmaker has been awarded £5,000 as part of a £25,000 funding boost from Scotmid, following a vote by its members to support good causes across the North of Scotland.
The charity is one of three organisations to benefit from the fund and will use the support to continue providing life-changing training and employment opportunities for adults with learning disabilities.
Operating an artisan bakery and coffee house in the city, The Breadmaker produces high-quality bread and confectionery for top restaurants, cafés and retailers. Its apprentices, who have learning disabilities, gain hands-on experience within a busy business, learning valuable life and work skills that help them reach their full potential.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received. This funding will enable us to continue providing meaningful opportunities for our apprentices, helping them to develop skills, build confidence and become active members of the community. It’s heartening to see the positive impact our work has on their lives.”
The Scotmid funding initiative aims to strengthen local communities by supporting grassroots organisations making a real difference. The other beneficiaries of this year’s £25,000 pot are Earthtime in Moray and the Cetacean Research and Rescue Unit (CRRU) in Banff.
