ABERDEEN Airport saw a significant increase in both passengers and profits last year, with nearly 300,000 more people flying in and out, leading to a 12% jump in revenue and a remarkable rise in earnings.

The latest financial reports from Companies House reveal that Aberdeen International Airport Ltd’s total sales climbed to £51.9 million in 2023, marking a 12% increase from the previous year’s £46.3 million.

The company’s profits also saw a substantial rise, soaring to £6.8 million from £266,000 in the same period.

Passenger traffic at Aberdeen Airport skyrocketed to 2.3 million last year, with international flights increasing by 24% and domestic flights seeing a 9.3% rise.

To accommodate this growth, the airport invested £2.6 million in major projects for 2023, building on the £2.3 million spent on upgrades in 2022.

In his strategic report, Director Andy Cliffe highlighted the improvements made in enhancing the “passenger experience” and “operational readiness” at Aberdeen Airport. He commented:

““Major projects included the ongoing programme of airfield pavement re-lifing works, surface access barrier equipment replacement and essential re-lifing works to major assets within various operational buildings including roofs and electrical infrastructure.”

Looking forward, the company anticipates that passenger numbers will continue to grow. It points to a “positive” outlook for the oil and gas sector, with the government announcing new licenses to bolster the UK’s energy security in preparation for a transition to net zero by 2050. This, according to Cliffe, is supported by local businesses diversifying into the renewable energy sector.

Aberdeen Airport’s parent company, AGS Airports Limited, which also operates airports in Glasgow and Southampton, also saw a rise in turnover last year.
