AIS Training opens second Aberdeen skills centre

Up to 12 new jobs will be created following the opening of AIS Training’s second state-of-the-art industrial training centre in Aberdeen.

AIS Training has invested £1m in the new 20,000 sqft² facility at Kingshill Commercial Park to create a centre of excellence for oil and gas, wind and heavy industry skills training.

The bespoke facility features a range of specially constructed working at height and renewables platforms, confined spaces, rigging and lifting structures, skids, scaffolding and industrial plant and fabric maintenance training areas, all of which simulate industrial environments. These give delegates an extremely realistic learning experience, better preparing them for working in the field.

The world-class centre also includes seven high-tech classrooms installed with the very latest IT, a central relaxation break-out space and a large changing area where delegates can prepare for their skills courses.

The first training courses are now being delivered at the centre which include rope access training, working at height, confined space, first aid, rigging, banksman and fork lift truck handling.

Senior instructor Ian Cameron from Kintore, Aberdeenshire is the latest appointment to the AIS Aberdeen instructor team with more jobs to follow as the centre becomes established. After leaving the British Army in 2004, Ian has held a number of senior positions in training, emergency response and health and
safety. He has a wealth of experience in delivering training and competency skills across a range of disciplines from rigging and lifting to emergency response and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPS) to name but a few.

Paul Attrill, AIS Director of Training and Education, said: “We are delighted to open our second facility in Aberdeen. At a time when many companies in the oil and gas sector are cutting back, this additional investment demonstrates our renewed commitment to the industry and our clients in Aberdeen and north-east
Scotland.

“Our new state-of-the-art centre complements our existing AIS Innovation and Competency Hub in Westhill and enables us to comfortably train up to 70,000 delegates per year across our multiple UK locations centred around Aberdeen, Newcastle and Grimsby.

“As the oil and gas sector starts to pick up, our investment in state-of-the-art training facilities will ensure our clients avoid issues of the past like skills shortages and have a skilled, knowledgeable, talented and well prepared workforce to take advantages of the opportunities as they arrive.”
