ALMOST 20,000 households in Aberdeenshire will receive a £299 cost of living payment over the next two weeks as part of the UK Government’s £104 billion support package.

The payment, released from on Tuesday, February 6, will be sent out automatically and recipients do not need to apply to receive it. This includes tax credits-only customers who will receive the payment from HMRC between February 16 and 22.

Banff and Buchan Conservative MP David Duguid said the payment will be “beneficial” to the 9,600 households in his constituency who will receive the money as part of the 20,000 across Aberdeenshire.

It is the third of up to three payments totalling up to £900 paid to eligible households on means-tested benefits over 2023/24 and is part of a support package that has helped millions of households since autumn 2021.

An additional 9,400 people in Moray will be eligible for the payment while 22,900 in Aberdeen are set to receive the February instalment.

Banff and Buchan Conservative MP David Duguid said: “I welcome the UK Government’s latest payment which will provide thousands of households across Aberdeenshire with more financial support to ease cost of living pressures this month.

“This payment will be hugely beneficial in helping to support those who need it most.

“Prime Minister Rishi Sunak continues to protect the most vulnerable and has delivered on his promise to halve inflation, putting money back in people’s pockets.

“The UK Government is now helping families by getting more people into good jobs, including through the Back to Work Plan which will help more than 1 million people look for work and grow the economy.

“These initiatives show the UK Government is continuing to protect the most vulnerable, while ensuring fairness for the taxpayer.”
