WITH THE government’s 2045 net zero targets looming, heating & plumbing training provider, Aberdeen Training Centre (ATC), has teamed up with heating manufacturer, Vaillant, to launch a new Partner Centre in Aberdeen.
The new centre will see the expansion of ATC’s in-person training. It will not only encourage heating engineers to diversify into heat pumps, but will also attract new players into the industry, which is expected to grow, after the government set an ambitious target of installing 600,000 heat pumps each year by 2028.

Working in partnership with Vaillant, this new facility will extend course availability, and give installers and those entering the industry greater access to training and support needed to make the transition to low carbon technologies.
Opening next week (11th May 2023), the new partner centre will take over the third floor at the Crombie Road facility in Aberdeen, adding an additional 3390 sq. ft of training space.
ATC’s staff have undertaken intensive Vaillant training across the manufacturer’s range of high efficiency boilers, heat pumps and hybrid systems. Several heat pump products have been installed at the centre to provide hands-on experience and complement theory-based learning.
Research (by Vaillant) shows that an estimated 100k installers will be required across the country to meet the nation’s target of 600k heat pump installations per year. ATC’s investment hopes to stimulate further interest into green energy by delivering training for 300 installers over the next 12 months. In turn, this will create new job opportunities through upskilling and reskilling into heat pump technology.
Steve Anderson, Managing Director at ATC comments: “With many parts of Scotland being remote, access to training can be challenging. Our partnership with Vaillant opens the doors for even more installers looking to invest in training, ready for a low carbon future. We’re delighted to play a role in introducing low carbon technology to installers as well as those looking to enter the industry, which will help them take advantage of the growth expected in coming years.”
Mark Wilkins, Training and Technologies Director at Vaillant, added: “While the Government’s target of 600k heat pump installs is clear, having the right skills in place is vital in ensuring its success. Offering heat pump training to existing heating engineers, together with attracting the next generation of heating installers, is central to this.
Through our partnership with Aberdeen Training Centre, we’re delighted to be able to further expand our comprehensive training offering to even more installers, ensuring the necessary skills and knowledge are in place to enjoy a successful and rewarding career in the industry.”
To celebrate the launch of the new Partner Centre, ATC is hosting a trades Open Day for Heating Engineers and those looking to become Heating Engineers on 11th May 2023, with various time slots during the day.
