Aurora, an independent drilling optimisation specialist, today announced a strategic partnership with Well Guidance, the Netherlands’ largest independently-owned directional drilling service provider. This collaboration as part of Well Guidance’s European Drilling Services (EDS) venture brings Aurora’s proven drilling optimisation technologies directly to European energy markets for the first time through an integrated service offering.
The partnership combines Aurora’s proprietary software suite with Well Guidance’s three decades of directional drilling expertise to deliver comprehensive optimisation services for geothermal and high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) oil & gas projects across Europe.
“This partnership represents a significant milestone in our mission to deliver data-driven drilling optimisation to global energy markets,” said Aurora Director, Harrie Oort. “Well Guidance’s extensive experience in geothermal and HT applications, combined with their strong European presence, creates the perfect platform to bring our proven technologies to new markets.”
Aurora’s technologies have already demonstrated exceptional results with major operators including Shell, Neptune Energy, and TotalEnergies. The company’s proprietary software provides comprehensive drilling system analysis that has increased rate of penetration (ROP) by up to 80% and reduced cost per foot drilled by over 40%.

Andy Douglas, Managing Director of Well Guidance and European Drilling Services, commented: “Aurora’s optimisation technologies perfectly complement our service offering, allowing us to provide clients with integrated solutions that were previously unavailable in the European market. This partnership enables us to offer comprehensive optimisation from the planning phase through to project completion.”
The collaboration addresses a critical gap in the European drilling services market by providing integrated optimisation and directional drilling capabilities through a single service provider. This approach eliminates the need for multiple vendors and creates more cost-effective solutions for energy companies expanding their drilling operations.
“Having worked extensively in high-temperature geothermal environments, we understand the unique challenges these projects present,” added Douglas. “Aurora’s data-driven approach to drilling optimisation addresses exactly the kind of technical complexities we encounter daily, and this partnership allows us to deliver enhanced value to clients who are pushing the boundaries of energy exploration.”
