Aberdeen City Council is preparing to issue a tender for £1.39 million of investment works at the Beach Ballroom, in a move that forms part of the City Centre and Beach Masterplan. The Finance and Resources Committee approved the plans on 5 August 2026, with work expected to focus on protecting the building’s fabric while improving access and security.
The project includes roof and external repairs, a dome rebuild, leadwork replacement, improved disability access, replacement windows for the Star Ballroom, a new gantry and access stair to the roof space, plus alarm and CCTV upgrades. Council papers say the physical improvements should also help boost the building’s energy efficiency.
Finance and Resources Committee convener Councillor Alex McLellan said: “The Beach Ballroom is an incredibly important building in our city and we are investing in the fabric of the building , ensuring that we are getting the basics right, to ensure it continues to meet the need of generations to come.”
“I look forward to seeing the improvement works begin in the near future, which highlights the Beach Ballroom is a key part of our beachfront moving forward.”
Aberdeen City Council Co-Leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: “It is important that the Council invests in maintaining and improving existing facilities like the Beach Ballroom.
“Investing in the Beach Ballroom compliments investment in creating the new Beach Park.”

The disability improvements are external level access to main entrance, install wheelchair lift from ground floor to lower ground floor, and create lift to first floor Ballroom.
A report to committee said the physical improvements to the fabric of the Beach Ballroom should in turn bring about improvements to the energy efficiency of the building. It said the tender is expected to go out in winter 2026/2027.
