LOCAL children’s charity, Befriend a Child, are appealing to the Aberdeen public to help bring the magic of Christmas to children living in difficult life circumstances through their annual Giving Tree Appeal.

The Giving Tree is a very simple concept that can have a powerful effect for the families Befriend a Child support locally. Simply choose a tag from any of Befriend a Child’s Giving Tree partners across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire and donate a gift to the child whose details appear on the tag or make a cash donation which can be used to pay for an experience for them to enjoy.

“Christmas can be a difficult time of the year for the children Befriend a Child support. It can be hard to believe, but there are children in our very community growing up in such difficult circumstances that it can prevent them from experiencing childhood and Christmas in the same carefree way as their peers and we want to change that,” – Jean Gordon, Head of Operations, Befriend a Child.

This year the Befriend a Child Giving Tree Appeal is bigger than ever, with even more children requiring support and even more fantastic local businesses taking part with tags on trees across the entire city and shire. You can choose to donate a physical gift or an experience such as a visit to the cinema, the chance to play at one of the city’s many leisure facilities or even the chance enjoy a Christmas lunch.

“We are asking the generous Aberdeen public to dig deep this festive season and take part in an appeal that will make a difference to the lives of local children. We want to help create happy, lasting memories for children who, some for the first time, will be able to go back to school in January and make friends by sharing their Christmas experiences,” – Bethany Hogg, Fundraising Manager, Befriend a Child.

Donations of physical gifts can be dropped off to the Befriend a Child offices at 9 Bon Accord Square by 4pm on the 10th of December or monetary donations for experiences can be donated until the 20th of December by visiting the following link.
