BGF’s Aberdeen team, which provides equity funding to support growth and expansion, has invested £100m of equity capital across 13 companies including subsea remotely operated vehicle supplier ROVOP, organic waste management company Keenan Recycling and FrontRow, an oilfield services technology group.

Mike Sibson, Head of BGF’s Aberdeen office, said: “We’re delighted to welcome David to the team during what has been an active year of investment transactions, providing portfolio companies with further funding to support their growth, as well as our exit of Duncan and Todd.

“Despite broader uncertainty in the UK, we are seeing a renewed focus on growth across small and mid-sized companies that have weathered the recent downturn in the North East. Our investment model means that we can focus on the long-term potential of the businesses we back, and it is within this context that we’re pleased to be expanding our team at our new offices in Golden Square.”

BGF has £2.5bn to invest in companies across all sectors of the economy, focusing on earlier-stage, established SMEs and AIM listed companies. During the past year, growth strategies across the BGF portfolio in the North East have ranged from investment in new technologies to site expansion and acquisitions.

David commented: “Having followed BGF for the past seven years, and seen the company build its presence in Scotland, I’m delighted to be joining the team.

“My family established a business which has grown and expanded over the years, so I have a good understanding of what it’s like to be an owner of a small business. I’m excited by the opportunity to work with other such businesses, providing a funding option that helps entrepreneurs accelerate their expansion, without losing control of their business. BGF continues to provide something additive to the funding market, and I’m looking forward to working with the team to expand the portfolio of exciting growth companies even further.”
