SHA is the only charity in Scotland offering dedicated specialist support to families living with the incurable genetic neurological condition, Huntington’s Disease (HD). The network of specialist services is provided through a team of sixteen and includes the world’s only HD youth service, as well as financial wellbeing and wellbeing volunteer services across the country.

The charity is one which is very close to hearts of Bibby Offshore staff. Keith Gordon, the company’s Materials Controller lives with Huntington’s, whilst a number of his colleagues also have family members affected by the condition.

Discussing the benefits of SHA, Keith said: “The SHA Grampian Specialist Service team has helped me so much with many aspects of living with Huntington’s Disease – including helping me to complete benefit application forms and providing all sorts of advice. I know that I can contact the team at any time for any help or support I may need, and I know I would struggle without its support.”

As holders of an NHS Grampian Healthy Working Lives (HWL) Gold Award, Bibby Offshore develops and delivers a series of events and initiatives throughout the year to help personnel make positive changes to their lifestyles, general wellbeing and mental health.

Where possible, the program of events is also designed to help support the local community.  As well as direct fundraising for causes such as the Scottish Huntington’s Association, past activities have included litter picks in Westhill and conservation work on the River Don.

SHA Fundraising Manager, Douglas Peddie said: “This kind of support is invaluable to SHA. Not only has Bibby Offshore helped fund the HD Specialist service in Grampian, but they have been a stellar example of a supportive workplace. The company has done a great job of raising awareness of HD which is so important. We’re so grateful for all their efforts.”
