Bracoden Primary School in Gamrie joins 19 schools and teacher learning communities from across Scotland that have received the award.

Head Teacher, Mrs Lorraine Butler said: “Bracoden Primary School is a school with aspirational ambitions for everyone. Since joining the school in 2017 I have seen improvements made and celebrated year on year.”

“A thirst for being the best we can permeates every area of learning. We are driven and precise in what we want to achieve and winning this Excellence Award in Professional Learning is testament to the high standard of the school. A quote which summarises my view on the journey to excellence is by Ralph Waldo Emerson – ‘Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.’

“A big thank you to my team for all their hard work and dedication.”

Aberdeenshire Council Head of Education Vincent Docherty commented: “Our school teams do a fantastic job of supporting each other and making the best of a whole host of professional learning opportunities.

“It is brilliant to see Bracoden’s efforts being recognised nationally and I know their work will be of real benefit to the children of the school. Well done, folks.”

Dr Pauline Stephen, Chief Executive and Registrar, GTC Scotland said: “It is vital teachers are able to learn within a culture of professional trust and positive relationships. Our award recognises how teachers’ professional learning is being supported in our schools and learning communities. The commitment to learning throughout a teacher’s career helps ensure trust and respect in the teaching profession and positively impacts on the experiences and outcomes for learners.”
